This Polk County route brings history to life. Informational signs along the trail describe the history of the citrus industry, the Peace River, and pioneer medicine, and are named after a military fort built north of Bartow during the Second Seminole War. The route travels along an abandoned rail line from State Road 540 to State Road 60, passing through groves, fields, and pastures, and joins a long list of excellent Florida walking, hiking, and bicycling trails. Picnic tables, seats, restrooms, and a park-and-ride lot are among the amenities, which join a lengthy list of excellent Florida walking, hiking, and biking paths. The track may eventually be extended north into Lakeland, where it will connect to the city's bike trail system.
